Something I heard on the radio sparked my creative nerve this weekend. It got me to thinking about all the different draft personalities I've run into over the years. I'm sure you'll be able to identify many friends that fall under one or more of these categories. I've come up with 10 different fantasy football draft personalities. Feel free to add more either here or in the FFOC forum thread.
> "Clueless" - Not only do they often try to draft players who were drafted 5 rounds ago, but every time a non-marquee name gets selected, the say "what team is he on and what does he play?"
> "ESPN" - They love the highlight reel players who really aren't good fantasy players. They are surprised when guys like Chad Johnson, Reggie Bush and Mike Vick are still around in round 3.
> "Expert" - They are in 10+ leagues and no player drafted surprises them. They'll often provide novices with snide comments like "Wow. That's early for him. He normally gets drafted in the 8th round."
> "Homer" - When in doubt, they select someone from their favorite team. All players on their favorite team get bumped up 4 or 5 spots on the rankings. They will usually also avoid picking teams from their rival team at all costs.
> "Old Timer" - Always think that because a player was great 10 years ago, that they are valuable this year. Happy to get Jerry Rice when he was on the Raiders. Thought Marshall Faulk was still a stud when he only had one healthy knee late in his career. Never drafts a player in anticipation of a breakout year.
> "Rain Delay" - Unfortunately, I run into far too many of these at my drafts. They him and haw over every pick. Half the time, they don't even realize it's their pick. Sometimes it's alcohol induced and sometimes it's just because they don't know anything. If it weren't for these people, all drafts could be done in 2 hours.
> "Robot" - They have their favorite magazine and pick solely based on that magazines cheat sheet. There's really no need for them to be at the draft, because you can guess who their pick will be every time.
> "Stat-man" - They come with plenty of books and spreadsheets. Base their rankings 100% on last years numbers. Will sometimes make comments like "I can't believe you took X before Y. Y scored 2 more TD's than X last year"
> "Wanna be" - The person who thinks they know it all, but really don't. You'll often hear them say "That's a great pick!" or "That's who I was gonna take" as if it will make that owner think they made a tremendous pick because if "wanna be" was going to take them, it must be a good pick.
> "Lee Corso" - Go overboard in taking rookies and other young unproven players. Sometimes you have to double check that this is an NFL league and not a college league. They want to look smart because they drafted the rookie of the year, but fail to mention they also drafted 4 young guys who never saw the field.
